At one time the area was known as Huntington South until Nathaniel Conklin moved to the area around 1803 and named it New Babylon. In 1872, the town was officially partitioned from the Town of Huntington. Babylon is in the Babylon School District offering 1 elementary school, 1 grade school, and 1 junior/high school.
