At one time the area was known as Huntington South until Nathaniel Conklin moved to the area around 1803 and named it New Babylon. In 1872, the town was officially partitioned from the Town of Huntington. Babylon is in the Babylon School District offering 1 elementary school, 1 grade school, and 1 junior/high school. Babylon is known for its beaches that offer visitors and residents the opportunity to enjoy all kinds of water and beach activities at such beaches as Cedar Beach, Gilgo Beach, Oak Beach, and Overlook Beach.
